Children in Reception have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rooster 2017, as part of our Amazing Animals topic.
As well as making lots of crafts such as Chinese lanterns, puppets and masks, we wrote about the story of Chinese New Year; learned about ordinal numbers from the animal race; talked about the different qualities of a person born in the year of the Rooster and found out that we were either a Dragon or a Snake depending on the year we were born. After a bit of research, the children rounded the week off with a Chinese Dragon dance, with colourful fabrics and instruments. They were so excited to learn about dragons that we are following their interest in them across the next two weeks, starting with activities based around the Julia Donaldson book ‘Zog’.
Keep checking back for more updates and some exciting additions to the classroom over the next two weeks.
